The Sunny Smiles Montessori Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit educational institution approved by the Department of Education and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. All its curriculum are likewise approved by the Department of Education and are compatible with the country’s K to 12 education program.

Sunny Smiles Montessori Inc. was established to provide residents of Calabanga, Camarines Sur and its immediate environs access to quality basic education, its contribution to the long-term growth of the people in the area.

It currently operates with two school buildings, one for early education (Preschool) while the other building houses classrooms for grades I to 5 (Elementary). The facilities are located within a few meters away from each other in an urbanized area in Calabanga, this province.

It envisions itself to be the best provider of basic education in the area, consistent with the tenets of Dr. Maria Montessori, where the needs of the child for the development is his/her full potential is assured, providing for the best possible environment for the unfettered growth of the whole child, his character, spirit, and mind, so that they can become fully able to contribute to their fellows and the whole community.

Its immediate goal is to provide a full complement of basic education for its students, consistent with the programs of the Department of Education (DepEd), with suitable facilities in a new school building.

FEATURES

Classrooms are fully air-conditioned while the school is equipped with the necessary facilities to ensure a safe, satisfying, productive and happy learning experience.

Pre-school
● Two teachers per class with only 20 students maximum each in Preschool, junior casa (nursery) ages 2 1/2 to 3, advanced casa (Kinder 1) 3 1/2 to 4 and Prep (Kinder 2) 4 1/2 to 5 ½.
● Montessori-type learning complete with special teaching materials for reading and language, math, cultural arts, science, and geography.
Grade School
● Maximum of 22 students per class
● DepEd approved K to 12 curriculum

Extra-curricular Activities
● Extra-curricular activities are supported by the school to supplement academics. The school also participates actively in programs and activities sponsored by the Department of Education, such as the annual Private Schools’ Day, where academic and cultural competitions are held.
● The school has consistently been in the Top 10 among the over 70 schools as far academic contests are concerned.

Enrichment Classes
● Enrichment classes are regularly held during summer for English, Math and Science subjects.

Brief History

Sunny Smiles Montessori Inc. (formerly, Montessori Children's House of Learning-Calabanga) officially started in the school year 2013 when it was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Education.

Throughout its young existence, the school continues to enjoy the support and cooperation of its teaching staff, students and their parents. With its reputation for providing quality Montessori-type education, it has gained the trust of the community. This has resulted in more walk-in inquiries for enrolment and more applications for teaching positions.

Each year, as the student population grows by an average of more than 50 percent, the school also hires additional teaching and non-teaching personnel.

Its effectiveness as a learning institution is reflected in the high ratings it has been receiving. Its students also frequently land in the top ten slots during inter-school competitions involving more than 70 private schools.


Milestones

● Start of operation in June 2010 as Montessori Children’s House of Learning-Calabanga
● The school acquires a new name: Sunny Smiles Montessori Inc. (SSMI) and is duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit organization on October 2013.

● Its Pre-school graduates are accommodated in higher levels. The first batch of Grade I students are welcomed in School Year 2011-2012
● Steady growth is recorded in terms of student enrolment from 37 students in Junior Casa and Advanced Casa levels (Pre-school levels) at the start of operation in 2010, with the number of students doubling up from each previous year. Present grade levels include Grades I to IV.

School Logo: Shapes, Colors and Meanings

The Sunny Smiles Montessori, Inc. logo comprises of a shield with two fields, one green and the other blue, signifying the natural environment, active interaction with which encourages better learning and personal growth for children.

Green represents life and growth, while blue, which also signifies the sky, represents peace, safety and higher values of spirituality. The sun occupies a major portion of the shield, symbolizing learning and wisdom, while below it appears a sapling, representing the child, in white, representing his capability to learn. The entire logo sits in an open white background enclosed in a circular shape, indicating wholeness and integration.

Overall, the logo aims to project the kind of learning environment which Sunny Smiles Montessori always aspires to: child-centered, friendly, nurturing and pleasant, and at the same time, safe, stable and secure.
